The Mission of Company H, Fifth Reg't. New Hampshire Vol's.
is to honour, through commemoration, education, and preservation, the men and women -- particularly those from Canada's Atlantic Provinces -- who served the cause of "Union and Liberty" during the epic struggle that was the American Civil War.
Commemoration -- We strive to honour, celebrate, memorialize, venerate, remember, and observe the deeds of the men and women of the Civil War era, particularly those with ties to Atlantic Canada and Canada in general.
Education -- Through the appropriate training and education of our membership, we may gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the history of the era. By constantly striving for a higher level of authenticity in our portrayals, our military demeanour, drill, uniforms, and equipment, we may, in turn, more capably teach the public, both in Canada and the United States, about the many and varies roles of Canadians in the American Civil War.
Preservation -- We participate in battlefield and historical site preservation and restoration activities. One of these, our program of recording and preserving Atlantic Canadian Civil War gravesites -- known as GAR or Grave Archive and Remembrance -- allows us to "give back" to individuals and communities through efforts of research, record-keeping, fundraising, volunteer work, and commemoration.
