The mission statement of Co. H, Fifth Regiment New Hampshire Volunteers says that we are to "honour, through commemoration, education, and preservation, the men and women -- particularly those from Canada's Atlantic Provinces -- who served the cause of Union and Liberty" during the American Civil War. Thus, it is altogether fitting and proper that we portray more than just the military side of this conflict that involved so many Canadians in so many ways.
For us, the Private in the ranks is the most important portrayal, one that requires our utmost attention when recruiting new members to "The Fighting Fifth". However, many other roles greatly enhance our attempt and ability to commemorate the memory of those people from that pivotal long-ago era, and educate the public about these critical days of both American and Canadian history.
We pride ourselves in being a family-oriented organization; thus, there are portrayals in Co. H, Fifth New Hampshire for all family members. However, undertaking any portrayal in Company H is not just about putting on period-correct clothing; we strive for an authentic portrayal. We also expect members to research their portrayal and show a deep understanding of their specialty and of the Civil War era. If you are interested in immersing yourself in a role in Co. H, Fifth New Hampshire -- whether it be military or civilian -- share our love of history, and demonstrate an eagerness to work for the good of the Company, then your talents are needed in Co. H, Fifth Regiment New Hampshire Volunteers!
